Atkins & Low-Carb - Part 6

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Tracie Johanson In this series of articles we have focused on low-carb dieting. Is it right for YOU? We have looked at some of the concerns with low-carbing, we’ve examined the diets of bodybuilders, and we’ve explained exactly how carbohydrates react in the body. In this final article on the topic of carbs, we will attempt to answer the million dollar question: should YOU start a low-carb diet? * THE EXPERTS First and foremost, please understand that the majority of physicians in the United States will not recommend a no-carb diet. By and large, doctors are going to follow the generally accepted health practices, and those practices require us to partake of all four food groups. Citing the fact that there are no long-term studies available on the effects of carbohydrate deprivation, the American Heart Association does not recommend a no-carb approach. On the other hand, there are some doctors who look at the results achieved on low-carb or no-carb diets and say (like some of us have): you can’t argue with results! * THE RESEARCH Both sides in the low-carb debate have doctors and studies to back up their claims. The Atkins group has well-done studies proving that their diet results in weight loss and lower cholesterol. The South Beach folks can quote even more studies. Both groups also do a very good job of trotting out some very convincing before-and-after pictures of people (just like us!) who have seen results on the low-carb diets. On the other hand, there is no shortage of research proving that low-carb diets are unsafe and ineffective. A study by Linda van Horn of Northwestern University in Chicago assessed more than 4,000 people in the United States, Britain, Japan and China, asking them to write down everything they had eaten over two 24-hour periods. “Lo and behold, what we did find is that without exception, a high complex-carbohydrate, high-fiber, high vegetable-protein diet was associated with low body-mass index (the standard measure of healthy weight),” Van Horn said. The more animal protein a person ate, the higher his or her weight, she said. It’s easy to see that the research conflicts on this issue, as it does on many topics. * THE ROLE MODELS In a previous article we examined the diets of professional bodybuilders and (female) fitness models. Almost without exception, we found that these EXTREMELY healthy people did NOT eliminate all carbohydrates from their diet. Again, almost without exception, these folks DID strictly limit the intake of ‘garbage’ carbs (donuts, cake, cookies, etc.). Bodybuilders and fitness models get their carbs from QUALITY sources including brown rice, vegetables, fruit and yams. * PHONE A FRIEND! Yikes! The experts don’t agree and the research doesn’t agree! What to do? Let’s phone a friend….. Most of us have a friend or family member that has lost weight on a low-carb plan. Sometimes they’ve even lost a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight. All that anecdotal evidence can’t be wrong, can it? As we learned in a previous article on this topic, low-carb diets will help you lose weight! There’s enough research and evidence out there now to fully support that claim. But is it the ‘right’ weight, and is it ’safe’ weight? Especially during the first two weeks on a low-carb diet, much of the weight loss is attributable to water loss. Falling off the diet, or introducing carbohydrates back into the body, will result in faster-than-normal weight gain from replenished glycogen stores. Another HUGE concern with low-carb weight loss success is whether or not it is ’safe’ weight loss. We’re not talking about heart health or cholesterol levels, but right now we’re discussing fat loss vs. muscle loss. After all, nobody wants to lose muscle, do they? When we talk about wanting to lose weight, it’s just understood that we want to lose FAT! On a low-carb diet, it is very possible to lose far too much weight from muscle and not enough weight from fat. (For more information on the distinction between fat loss and muscle loss, go to www.letspickupthepace.com and check out the e-book titled “The #1 Mistake People Make In Their Weight Loss Efforts”). So although our friends and family may have experienced weight loss on a low-carb diet, that fact alone is not enough to convince US to try it too. * CAN WE STICK WITH IT? As we’ve said time and time again, NO DIET IS GOING TO WORK FOR YOU IF YOU CAN’T STICK WITH IT. The Idaho Press Tribune ran and interesting article in defense of low-carbing (3-25-04, LeAnn Coffelt, Your Health section), where some of the challenges of low-carbing were disclosed: carb withdrawal (compared to nicotine withdrawal), hair loss, etc. Perhaps the most intriguing quote of the story was “One of the silliest things I’ve ever heard is that you will put the weight back on after you stop the diet. Well, of course you will.” Before attempting to lose weight on a low-carb (or ANY) diet, you simply must ask yourself ‘Can I stick with it?’. If you love pasta and pizza, then the answer is probably no. * THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION Okay, okay, enough talk about the pros and cons of low-carb life! Should you or shouldn’t you ‘go low carb’? Sorry to disappoint you, but NOBODY can answer that question for you. You, and only you, know if a low-carb diet is something you can stick with for life. There is, however, a list of questions you can (and should!) ask yourself before taking the plunge into low-carb mania: 1) HAVE I DISCUSSED THIS WITH MY DOCTOR? 2) Do I have a family history of heart disease and/or high blood pressure? 3) Do I have a family history of cholesterol problems? 4) Do I have a family history of cancer? 5) Do I think I can stick with it, even through the ‘carb withdrawal’ phase? 6) Have I scheduled regular bodyfat tests to make sure I am losing fat and not muscle? 7) Do I have a support system in place to help me stick to my new lifestyle? 8) Have I taken the time to EDUCATE myself on the specific diet, or am I simply following the advice of friends? 9) HAVE I DISCUSSED THIS WITH MY DOCTOR? 10) HAVE I DISCUSSED THIS WITH MY DOCTOR? Low-carb (or even no-carb) dieting MAY be safe and effective for you. Only your doctor can help you answer that question. In addition, Low-carb (or even no-carb) dieting MAY be something you can stick with for life. Only you can answer that question. * OUR FINAL ANSWER You didn’t really think that we’d conclude this article without a reminder to EXERCISE, did you? After all, EXERCISE IS THE ONLY THING THAT ALL THE DOCTORS AND EXPERTS DO AGREE ON! Melanie Polk, RD, is the Director of Nutrition Education at the American Institute for Cancer Research. “We already know how to lose weight and keep it off,” said Polk. “It’s not a secret: eat less, EXERCISE MORE. Instead of eliminating all carbohydrates, choose whole-grain options and beans with the fiber to fill you up and provide energy throughout the day. Add vegetables and fruits while cutting back on animal protein and fat.” Doctors agree that exercise is critical to achieving a healthy fitness level for life. When Bad Interviews Happen to Good Candidates

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Linda Matias Going through the motions of a bad interview is like peeling back the layers of an onion. Sally learned this lesson the hard way, hands-on during an interview that should have been a piece of cake. Sally applied for a position that fit her qualifications perfectly. When she received an invitation to interview, Sally believed she was a shoo-in for the job. Feeling confident, she approached the interview in a lax manner. She didnt prepare and prematurely celebrated an offer she was convinced would be extended. The day of the interview, Sally was surprised by the level of anxiety she felt. Her apprehension began to build and she began to prepare for the interview at the last minute. By the time she arrived at the interview, she was visibly shaken. Lesson learned: The time to collect your thoughts is prior to an interview, not on your way to one. If you arrive to an interview bewildered, the recruiter will take notice and you run a high risk that you will be not get the offer. The interviewer entered the waiting area and introduced himself. To ease the tension, he asked a common icebreaker question, Did you have trouble finding us? Sally has never been a smooth small talker and she answered the question candidly. She confided that she doesnt have a good sense of direction and coupled with the fact that she was anxious, she passed the building entrance quite a few times. The interviewer smiled politely and proceeded to walk towards the interview room. Realizing she goofed, Sally hesitantly followed the interviewer. Lesson learned: Everything you say and do during an interview is scrutinized; from the instant you walk in, to the moment you walk out. An innocent question doesnt exist during an interview and a careless misstep is seldom forgotten. Choose your responses carefully. When Sally was escorted to the interview room, she was surprised to see a panel of interviewers. She was only familiar with the its just you and me, kid type of the interview the one-on-one. At the start of the interview, she quickly realized that it was going to be a challenge to manage that interview. Lesson learned: Interviews are unpredictable. One never knows the broad range of topics that will be covered and the type of formats that may be presented. Familiarize yourself with all interview settings. Because she was not ready for the series of questions, Sally tripped over her answers. She focused on issues that werent relevant and provided little information on what was pertinent. She began to ramble and appeared under-qualified for the position. Sensing that she was interviewing poorly, Sally began to lose patience with the process. She failed to maintain eye contact and began to fidget. The enthusiasm she felt for the position and the company slowly diminished as she witnessed the blank looks on the faces of the panelists. She withdrew mentally from the interview, and as a result, appeared disinterested. Lesson learned: Most interviewers expect candidates to be nervous during an interview, and they rarely will forgive you if you fail to demonstrate a sincere interest in working for them. Most hiring decisions are based on whether the interviewer feels a connection to you. The failure to establish a bond immediately is usually beyond repair. After the interview Sally realized that the questions she had been asked were not difficult. She had been overwhelmed by nervousness and that had clouded her ability to communicate clearly and to the point effectively. Lesson learned: Even if you have the right stuff, nothing is guaranteed. Dont get caught off guard; prepare for interviews; do your homework. About The Author Recognized as a career expert, Linda Matias brings a wealth of experience to the career services field. Recruiting Excellent Job Candidates

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By David Leonhardt An independent recruiter, recruiting agency or executive search firm is charged with tracking down excellent potential candidates for available job positions. Despite the fact that there are innumerable people seeking positions of employment in the 21st century, it often seems to a typical recruiting agency that qualified men and women are few and far between. Here are six easy tips that recruiting services, staffing firms, or executive search firms should keep in mind when on the hunt for outstanding potential job candidates in the 21st century. These tips are equally applicable to companies undertaking their own search without the help of recruiting agency services. Indeed, the headaches associated with finding qualified personnel is magnified for a company undertaking its own recruitment efforts. 1. Post an Ad on an Industry-specific Job Board. Oftentimes, a recruiter will take a scattershot approach to finding candidates that are worthy of consideration for an available position. They broadcast far and wide the fact that a certain position is open and available, in big city newspapers and on major Internet job boards. If a recruiting agency were more thoughtful about its recruitment efforts, it would realize the benefits of positing an announcement of an available position on an industry-specific Internet job board. By posting in a selective and admittedly limited manner, recruiters and staffing firms would be reaching out precisely to the pool of people most likely to be qualified for an open position. One excellent tool for finding industry-specific job boards can be accessed at the Online Recruiters Job Board Directory. 2. Use Recruiters that Specialize in a Given Field. As with advertising, choosing an effective recruiter might be just a matter of targeting, particularly for a managerial or executive position. These positions can be very hard for in-house personnel directors and human resource managers. While these people do have responsibility for hiring, the search for a new employee with skills beyond the norm for their company can best be targeted by a professional executive head hunter. The same can be said for specialized fields, such as accounting or information systems. In-house human resources staff might know all about pharmaceutical skill-sets required for a multitude of research and administration positions, but they might rarely have to deal with hiring staff to track money or to keep the computers functioning. That’s when recruiting agency services specializing in IT or in accounting can come in handy. 3. Develop an In-House Referral Program. In many instances, exiting staff members can help speed up the search for quality job candidates. Employees often have contacts elsewhere within the industry, some of which may be looking for a change of employment. By cultivating this internal resource, a personnel director can develop a wealth of ready information about prospective employees who might well serve the organization as valued employees. 4. Search Resumes Posted on Job Boards. In addition to advertising on an industry specific job board, a diligent personnel director or recruiting agency will want to take the time to search and consider resumes that have been posted on job boards. Often, a person pounding the pavement looking for employment may not have the time to take in and review all of the various available positions that have been posted on a every job board. This is even more true if a given prospect is a highly sought-after candidate, who might be still busy in a current position of responsibility. 5 .Use a Directory of Recruiters. Because there are so many different type of recruiters in business in the 21st century it can often be difficult for in-house human resources staff to pinpoint the recruiter that will be best able to meet the needs of a given employee recruitment campaign. But there are resources available, such as directories of recruiters. One such directory is the Online Recruiter Directory. By using a professional directory, in-house human resources staff will be able to identify the most appropriate resources for their company and for the recruiting task at hand. Even staffing firms can benefit from such a recruiters directory to seek help in a specialized field they don’t often work with. 6. Dont Rush the Process. Finally, while it is an overused saying, Rome wasnt built in a day. In the same vein, 99 times out of 100 there is no need to rush the process of seeking, identifying and hiring a new employee, particularly an executive level employee. A personnel director should take his or her time to identify, screen, interview and hire the best candidate. Throughout this process, a human resources manager or specialist will rely on the services and support tools identified in this article. By using these tips, in the long run the best possible candidate for a given position will end up being hired, and the company will benefit from the best possible employees. Being Overweight Doesn’t Really Hurt Your Chances to Attract Women

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Teddy Shabba When it comes to attracting women being overweight doesn’t really hurt you. However, rarely does being overweight help your chances to attract women except perhaps with women who have a tendency to be attracted to the “Teddy Bear” type. Ultimately if you are overweight your chances to attract women will depend on what kind of life you live. If you live a life of watching TV, going to work, and going to the bars and clubs; you will find it to be very difficult to find and attract a quality woman or even an average woman into your life. On the other hand, if you live an active life and do things that you find interesting and rewarding you will find it easier and easier to attract women into your life. Now, it is also important that you understand how to attract women no matter if you live an active or inactive life. If you live a life of watching TV and are overweight you should consider losing weight, getting a life, or both; because quite frankly you have nothing to offer a woman. It is important to realize that women in general are attracted more to men who can fulfill them emotionally and with their lifestyle. Looks only become important to a woman when a man has nothing else to offer her. Plastic Pens or Metal Pens?

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Tina Rinaudo If you are planning on using promotional pens to advertise your business, then you are taking a great first step toward getting your company name out there for people to find and make use of. The goal of any promotion is to keep your old customers coming back with rewards for their loyalty and promises of continued great service and to attract new business. If you can do both with one action, then it seems foolhardy not to take advantage of the opportunity. Using promotional pens is a great way to reward existing customers with something useful while at the same time placing your advertising in a place where it will likely be seen again and again, both by your customers and by others with whom they come into contact. A promotional pen bears your company name and logo, and says good things about your company. Promotional pens tell the public that you are generous as a company and are willing to go the extra mile to give them something that they will find useful or helpful in some way. Everyone uses a pen from time to time, and carrying one of your promotional pens is a great way to spread the word about your company. The biggest question once you have decided to make use of promotional pens is whether you are going to use metal or plastic pens for your promotional needs. Plastic pens are great for setting up in a cup on a desk and encouraging your customers to take, but they are less likely to keep these pens for a long time since they are cheap and easy to lose or replace. This could be good in a way since you might gain interest when someone finds one of your promotional pens, but to ensure that they are used and safeguarded by your customers, metal pens are the best bet. Keep them on your person and hand them to your customers when they express the need for a pen. When they try to return it, tell them that it is for them because they do business with you. They will immediately feel appreciated, and will be thankful for the surprising gift. They will be more likely to keep a nice, well made promotional metal pen, and will have lots of good things to say about your company the next time someone asks them what they recommend for your particular kind of service. Just like with plastic pens, metal pens also get carried around and used, exposing your own customers to your company information and also exposing those around them to the same. People who ask where your customers got such a nice pen will be referred back to you, and your promotional metal pens will quickly pay for themselves. You might think that the extra expense of metal pens over plastic pens is not worth it, but think about how you want to proceed before you choose. Do you simply want to hand out novelty pens, or do you want your customers taking home a pen that they will use and display again and again? The Uses of Genetic DNA Testing

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Rich Fuller Genetic testing or DNA testing is a relatively recent development due to advances in scientific knowledge that has many and varied uses including paternity testing, testing for various genetic diseases during pregnancy, or for forensic investigations. In this article we are going to be discussing some of the uses of genetic testing and how they work. The first use of genetic testing is called paternity testing and is used to verify who the biological father of a child is. When there is a doubt about who the biological father of a child is this can hold not only implications for the relationship both between the parents and between the father and child; but also legal and financial implications (for example, who is responsible for meeting the childs financial needs as they grow up). Genetic testing in this instance can be done through collecting a sample of the fathers, mothers and childs DNA which are then compared at various points. This method of verifying paternity is a lot more accurate than older methods and is also painless as a DNA sample can be collected from a swab of the cheek. Another use of genetic testing is to help create your family tree and verify family history. In this case parts of the Y chromosome that dont tend to change down through the generations will be compared to others. People who have a common ancestor will show similar characteristics in certain places of this specific chromosome and so will help establish ancestral lines. This is also related to genetic testing for ancestry, or what percentage of each race group you have in your DNA. By doing an ancestral genetic test through laboratories that offer this service or home packs to test your ancestry you are able to determine your race history. There is a story, for example, of a man who thought he was African American most of his life, only to discover that he had no African American blood in him but a mixture of other race groups including Indo-European and Native American. Prenatal genetic testing may also be used to discover a number of diseases or health problems before a child is born. Many diseases may be related to an abnormality in the DNA which can be discovered through DNA testing in order to warn the parents of this possibility so that they can do what is best for their child. There are a number of uses for genetic testing and the above are just a couple of uses for personal genetic testing including paternity testing, genetic genealogy, ancestry testing and testing for possible health problems in an unborn child. Genetic testing is generally non-invasive and painless as DNA swabs can be taken from the cheek for comparison instead of having to take blood. These DNA swabs are then analyzed in a laboratory to compare different DNA segments and so determine the results of the above tests. Learn more about dna genealogy testing on our site. Don’t Get Upside Down On Your Motorcycle Loan

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gregg_Hall]Gregg Hall When I was in the automotive industry I saw the extension of car loans going into 54, then 60, then 72 months and with the extension of the loan installments came the inevitable negative equity. In general the longer the term you finance for the more likely you are to find yourself “upside down”. The motorcycle industry is no stranger to this as well and recently with the motorcycle finance companies offering loans that extend payments out as far as 72 months the problem is just getting worse. This is even more common with motorcycles that depreciate rapidly. Just as with automotive loans when you extend the payments out over more than three years you begin to put yourself in a situation where your debt exceeds the value of your motorcycle. This is even more true if you do not put money down or even worse if you trade in a bike that you still owe on. But how does this happen and what can be done to prevent it? To begin with you need to look at the way the lender determines the interest. Some lenders use the rule of 78 in which you will be paying almost all interest at the beginning of the loan and then you have the other more preferable method of simple interest. With an installment plan set up on a rule of 78 interest calculation you will be paying almost pure interest for the first couple of years and therefore will have virtually nothing in the way of equity. When you consider that statistically the average motorcycle owner trades bikes more often than every two years you can begin to see how this can be a problem. The interest computation of choice is simple interest; as a matter of fact I personally would accept no other option. The way simple interest works is that it is calculated on the balance of the loan and if you keep the length of the loan at a reasonable time frame you will not run into the negative equity problem. If you extend the payments out over more than four years you will still get yourself in trouble just as you will if you skip payments. If you have found yourself in a negative equity or upside down situation with your motorcycle don’t feel like there is no way out. A lot of people just give up and allow their bike to be repossessed and sold off at auction which just exacerbates their problem, now you owe money on a bike that you don’t have and can’t ride! To avoid being caught in the “upside down” predicament on your motorcycle always look for a lender that will give you a simple interest loan on your bike. Secondly, always put some money down upfront to reduce the payments and the terms. Finally, never finance your motorcycle purchase over more than three years. Your Next Experience Immediately After Death: What Really Happens After You Die

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Tyrone Keels It all depends on who you trust for information. If you believe that the first human beings were created by GOD as stated in the Bible, then you know that according to the Bible nothing happens immediately after death. That’s right, absolutely nothing. You remain in the grave until either the first or the second resurrection. According to the Bible, when a person dies, the thoughts cease and the breath of life returns to God. (Psalms 146:4) Neither heaven nor hell is an immediate experience after death. Even many religious people have not studied the Bible enough on their own to understand this. However, if you don’t believe that GOD is CREATOR, then you do not know, for sure, what will happen after death. Most every form of religion, not based upon Bible teaching, asserts that a part of every human being continues to live on after death; that we never really die. It is explained that the soul lives on. This in essence is immortality. Are human beings immortal ? Is there something inside human beings that is immortal ? Whether you believe in God or not, it may interest you to know that the devil has something to say about death and it is recorded in the Bible. According to him, and he was the first one to say so, you never really die. In the Bible, the first conversation about death was between Eve and the serpent. The serpent was being used as a medium of communication by the devil. And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: (GENESIS 3:2-4) God had said that Adam and Eve would die if they ate fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil but the serpent had said they would not surely die. God’s words indicated that they were mortal and the serpent’s words suggested that they were immortal. The Bible reveals the being who is represented by the serpent and the work that he does in this world. Here are the words of scripture - And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world. (REVELATION 12:9) Deceiveth the whole world ? Can the devil be trusted to tell the truth about death ? Evidently, some people mistakenly think so. Very many people believe that some part of every one still lives after death. Yes, maybe even you believe in the immortality of the soul. WHAT IS A SOUL ? How did it come into existence ? Why not ask God the CREATOR ? Since the Bible is declared to be His word, let us look there for an answer. The word soul or souls is mentioned in the Bible 498 times. The Hebrew word for soul in the Old Testament is Nephesh. It means - a breathing creature. There are 2 exceptions - Job 30:15 and Isaiah 57:16. In Job 30:15, the Hebrew word from which the word soul is derived is Nediybah. It means nobility; as in reputation. In Isaiah 57:16, the word souls is derived from the Hebrew word Neshamah. It means - a puff. Not once does the word soul mean anything that separates from the body at death. And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (GENESIS 2:7) Here is the first occurrence of the word soul in the Bible and an explanation of what it is. The breath of life from God plus the dust of the ground equals a living soul. Man does not have a soul, man is a soul. Read it again. Man is a living soul. The breath of life from GOD breathed into man made him alive. Still don’t believe it ? And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul. (1 CORINTHIANS 15:45) In the New Testament the Greek word from which the word soul is derived is Psuche. It means breath. The Bible also makes it plain that souls can die. Death and life are not the same thing.”The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (EZEKIEL 18:20,4) According to the Bible there is no “spirit” or “immaterial essence” called a soul that leaves our body at death. Nothing separates from the body to go to heaven or hell. If there is a part of any human being that cannot die, then that part of them is immortal. Yet, God has never suggested that we are immortal. Our heavenly FATHER and JESUS “Who only hath immortality… (1 TIMOTHY 6:16) will bestow immortality, as a gift upon those whose characters are like that of JESUS CHRIST when HE returns the second time. Because the human body is subject to a decaying process in death, it is referred to as being corruptible but God promises that this will not always be so. “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:53,54 Still someone may ask, BUT WHERE DO YOU GO AT DEATH ? Don’t people come back as spirits and haunt houses after they die ? Does God allow some people to come back from the grave with messages to their loved ones ? Again, we return to the Bible for an answer. - [As] the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no [more]. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more. JOB 7:9,10 What about the apparitions and ghosts or spirits that many people believe they have seen ? First of all, one needs to remember this and never forget it. God can work miracles but not all miracles are from God. It could appear that a person had returned from the grave but would God be the power behind the apparent miracle ? The word of God informs us that there is another source of miracles; miracles of deception. - For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, [which] go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. (Revelation 16:14) The spirits of devils can work miracles and it is not likely that it would be for the purpose of promoting the truth about death; when people die, they are dead. DOES ONE STAY IN THE GRAVE FOREVER ? The grave is not the final destination for human beings according to JESUS. Here is what He says in the Bible - Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (JOHN 5:28,29) Notice that JESUS speaks about 2 resurrections. Those who have done good to others and to their own bodies and minds will be raised in the first resurrection. Those who have done evil to others and to their own bodies and minds will be raised in the 2nd resurrection. The 2nd resurrection will result in the death of those who have rejected the love of God and His offer to transform their characters in preparation for eternity in heaven. - Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power. (REVELATION 20:6) The first resurrection is the hope of every one who loves GOD and the foundation for faith in JESUS CHRIST. Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead ? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then [is] our preaching vain, and your faith [is] also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith [is] vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:12-19 Here is something to think about. If the soul really did leave the body at death, then why would there be the need of even one let alone two resurrections ? Yes, not only does a soul die but it goes into the grave at death. What man [is he that] liveth, and shall not see death ? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave ? (PSALMS 89:48) The grave has robbed many people of their loved ones ever since the first death on earth. This is why death is considered an enemy in the Bible. Yet death itself will not always be able to cause sorrow. The last enemy [that] shall be destroyed [is] death. (1 CORINTHIANS 15:26) The Bible predicts the end of death. - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (REVELATION 21:4) This time is yet future. Those who love GOD and have died are not yet gone to heaven and are not yet praising the LORD. - The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence. PSALMS 115:17 While GOD loves everyone and will forgive anyone HE does not change our character against our will or without our cooperation. If it is going to be developed for heaven it must be developed throughout our lifetime and certainly before we die. Character is not changed by death or the resurrection. Many religions teach many different things about life after death but only the Bible teaches what you have just read. Expunge Criminal Records

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Danny Brown To expunge criminal records is to clear a persons record of a crime committed. The term expugement of criminal records is sometimes used with sealing, destruction or return to the subject of a persons criminal record maintained by government agencies. There are two sides to expunge criminal records. On one hand you have a person trying to get a job, buy a home or some other important life activity. They would like to remove the stigma of a police record or a court conviction. Society on the other side wants criminal records available for making informed decisions on future crime investigations. Laws and cases display the tension between these two sides. Criminal records may be expunged by statue and by inherent judicial authority. Expungement can be to seal or destroy the criminal records or take it back to the subjects of the records. The method used will depend on the state statue and the state court’s interpretation of its power. Each state is different in how they expunge criminal records. But most state statues want arrest records be given back to an arrested person if the court rules in favor of the arrested person. For the court to rule in this manner there can be no further evidence found to incriminate the person in question. In addition no further criminal justice action is continued. Another statue allows criminal records to be expunged or sealed but not given back or destroyed. This happens when an individual was convicted of a crime covered by a specific state statue. Also if the case was resolved short of a conviction. The courts have ruled they have the power to seal or expunge judicial branch criminal records. On a limited basis they may expunge criminal records held by other state agencies. As with any legal matter its best to consult with a legal professional about your case and the law in your area.
